This book is a good self-contained exposition of the theory of angular momentum for students at advanced undergraduate or early graduate level. Covers many of the same areas as Brink and Satchler, but the explanations and approach are different (less formal). The two books complement each other very well.

peppered with errors

This is not the book published by Wiley which I bought in the 1960's. I have looked only at the section on the relativistic electron, which is peppered with errors, just as if Dover had somehow published the uncorrected proofs of Rose's manuscript and not the corrected proofs which appeared in the Wiley addition. Printer errors are the curse of mathematical and scientific publishing and bring much grief to students and others who can't make the corrections. This is likely to increase since some publishers, against their commercial interests, are reluctant to supply authors with a second proof after authors have corrected a butchered first proof.

Simple version of Oleanna

I had to buy this very short story for my college Critical Thinking class. I was relieved to see that it is a pretty bare version that sticks to a simplistic form. Some other students in the class had bought a version that had easily 80 more pages (I'm not sure how this could be given how short the story is) so I was very happy with my choice. Mamet is an excellent play write and I found his story to be fantastic. I recommend watching the film AFTER you read the story because I've noticed the film easily persuades you from your original stances and I believe this is due to the visual and body language used.....so read first!

Challenging, though dated

I am a fan of much of Mamet's work and saw this play in the original production off-Broadway. Then, it was about political correctness gone mad, whereas now the play feels like it's really about power. As a power struggle between the teacher and the student, the play is funny and gripping, but not as intellectual as it was when it first came out. Read it as a polemic, (which I think Mamet originally intended) and it will fall flat. Read it as modern Strindberg and it will resonate.

Pleasantly suprised

I did not expect what I found in this book. He takes you back to Chemistry and even teaches/reviews the basic concepts for you even better than my teachers did (and then relates it to Botany). I am starting a garden/orchard from scratch just for the experience and thought a thorough read on Botany would make me better. I took Bio, Chem and Physics a while ago and did pretty well (except for Chem...my teacher lectured more about pancakes than ionic and covalent bonding). I did a lot of research on Botany texts and this seemed like the best one. I was not disappointed. If you're a scientist at heart and love the natural world - buy this book. I even ordered a Chemistry text for review due to inspiration from this book. The scientific disciplines are all related, and I hadn't realized that fully until now. I'm not even that far in and already feel that I got my money's worth with the wealth of information. Good luck, and forge forward.

A "must have" text for ecology

An excellent book for the principles of ecology, especially community and population ecology. Provides an introduction to all the basic concepts in ecology and reviews all the milestone studies in the field. Further, it indicates recent trends in research in the field. The language has been kept simple and equations listed are explained very well. Graphs, pictures and diagrams support the the text and useful in enlightening the reader on key concepts. I would say that it is currently the best text book available in ecology for students and ecologists

College text that is approachable by the non-scientist

I was taught from the first edition of this book by the author himself a few decades ago. Even more-so now than then, the book actually reads well and can be grasped by the non-scientist with a biological bent.

Ecology covers the complex interactions between organisms and their environment. It explains why things are as they are in nature with illustrative cases and a quantitative approach to their analysis. How glad I was to find this updated version of an old favorite.

Still the Best Book Available on Ecology - Extremely Readable

One of the best books ever written on ecology. Unless you are really into "it", you should ignore the math and look for all the little gems in the way of examples with real life organisms. Fascinating and an easy read.
