Great for me. I was looking for a Math book with TI-Nspire as the graphing calculator to improve learning.

Great content for me. I was looking for a Math book that includes TI-Nspire guides as the graphing calculator to improve learning. And this one has lots of this infomation.
The book follows the IB topics in the way that I needed. It has very good explanations and examples, very well illustrated and completed with information about the theory of knowledge. I found a very good resource for my students.
My 4 stars rating is due to the price. It is too high for mexican purchase power, all my students can't afford it. Even for me is too expensive and I have to do a great, great effort to buy it.

Its more challenging then i thought it'll be. Because i'm still at middle school, its a little bit hard. But for high school student especially IB students this should be much easier. The shipping is not that expensive. But the book is, for me its kind of pricy but its worth it because the book is so thick and good.

Great Resource for Consolidation of Clinical Knowledge on PM&R Topics

As a new PM&R Resident, I am extremely glad that I came across this book! When I see a case clinically, this is my immediate go-to resource to solidify my knowledge base on the topic. Buying the hard copy also gives you access to the online book...which is great for when I am in the hospital and like to travel lightly, only carrying my IPAD (download an app on your cell or IPAD....and you can download chapters to read from the book!). The chapters are short, concise, and to-the-point (exactly what a busy resident needs!). I was provided other books by my residency program (which are probably great resources, but their chapters are just too cumbersome to read in a short time frame)....these topic based chapters are exactly what I needed! Very well written, organized perfectly. I highly recommend it to any of my colleagues!

I think this book is probably great for someone who has already completed (or is about ...

I bought this book about a year before starting my PGY-2 year in PM&R. I knew that most residency programs give out Braddom. So I wanted to get a different perspective. I think this book is probably great for someone who has already completed (or is about to complete) residency as it is presents each subject over just a few pages and seems to assume that the reader already has a firm understanding of the pathophysiology behind the conditions. In short, the book is very comprehensive in terms of subjects covered, but relatively weak in terms of depth and pathophysiologic mechanisms.

I wish I had a book like this during residency

I wish I had a book like this during residency. Most of the chapters are quite smooth and organized, with minor exceptions. I am getting back into inpatient rehab after many years, and so this is a great start. The chapters are not in depth enough to end your educational effort, but are pretty awesome. I have two other good modern medical education books, and there seems to be a generation of new medical ed books coming out, that put many of the old classics to shame.

This installment of Legendary Games' mythic paths-series clocks in at 26 pages, 1 page front cover, 1 page inside front cover, 2 pages editorial, 1 page ToC, 2 pages of introduction, 1 page SRD, 3 pages advertisements, 1 page inside back cover, 1 page back cover, leaving us with 13 pages of raw content detailing this new mythic path, so let's take a look, shall we?

Now first things first - unlike the previous installments in this series, here, we have a mythic path that is very much intended to be used by the PCs, not their opposition, so that would be one change of focus. The stranger itself is an iconic concept and if the basic renditions of the trope it is based on is not readily apparent to you - this mythic path is about skirmishing and subterfuge, both mundane and magical. Tiers net +4 Hp and the path offers a selection of 3 stranger maneuvers: Fleet Charge lets you expend mythic power as a swift action to move up to your speed, while also executing a ranged or melee attack at full BAB at any point during the movement. painful reckoning allows you to use an immediate action to convert 5 points of damage taken per tier to nonlethal damage (or ignore nonlethal damage of said amount) and adds a luck bonus buff to AC/atk equal to 1/2 tier, to damage and Intimidate checks versus said foe equal to full tier. Surprise strike lets you expend mythic power as a swift action to execute a melee or ranged attack versus a target within 30 ft., which treats the target as flat-footed and adds tier to damage.

Of course, the pdf also provides a diverse array of path abilities gained at 1st tier and every tier thereafter, with some minor overlap with marshal, guardian and trickster. The path abilities allow for the learning of more stranger maneuvers, so no, you're not locked into an either-or-situation regarding the base path ability learned. Of course, the abilities themselves are diverse - but how diverse? What about calling in favors from contacts (with full synergy for the rules from Ultimate Campaign), gaining temporary followers or even a financial aid from your associates? Want to go Zorro on foes? Nonmagical signature arcane marks that may act as distraction to hide or to demoralize foes represent just that. What about using firearms and bombs to create dispel-effects against mind-affecting effects? And yes, including a valid range-related wording. Better dodge with retributive attacks OR diverting attacks to adjacent targets. Free action reloads powered by mythic power are also interesting.

Belonging to two orders (or flexible access to an alternate domain) to represent changing allegiances is pretty nice, as is the option to gain memory lapse as an SP, while ranger strangers may grant woodland stride to allies. Hearing heartbeats akin to Daredevil and the resulting repercussions for Sense Motive. Going Conan for the purpose of Stunning Fist/Improved unarmed Strike-punching creatures larger than you would be pretty neat as well. Automatically succeeding balancing on narrow edges also makes sense to me regarding the concept. Mythic upgrades for grit, ki and panache and Batman-style nimble falling gliding can be found in these options as well.

What about an ability that allows you to shroud your name and identity in mystery, making it hard for other creatures to recall your presence or an option to demoralize foes seeking to scry you and adding misdirection-tricks to those foolish enough to try to spy on you? Better improvised weapons and combining withdraw with disarm can be found herein as wel as improved tricks regarding resolve. One of my favorites lets you learn adding proficiencies with exotic weapons via short training as well as allowing you to treat the weapons as not suffering from detrimental qualities or adding beneficial ones to the weapon used for a massive array of odd combinations and weapon-tinkering. I also enjoyed the wall running options alongside the tricks to blend with and move through crowds.

Among the 3rd tier abilities, demoralizes to react to failed attacks on you while fighting defensively, full-blown batman cape-gliding with Wingover and a crazy-prepared trick are part of the fray, though I wished the latter had a caveat for not being able to duplicate unique items like specific keys. The abilities also cover being able to use suggestions while hidden from targets. Help and immunity versus emotion-effects and pain-effects and using language-dependent effects versus the caster make for solid tricks that fit well within the tropes covered. Counter-scrying, via the aptly-named "Watching the watchmen" also is neat. Beyond the sample suggested builds, the 6th tier abilities deserve their power - what about being able to return to life upon dying when healed within a certain amount of time, provided your body remains? Becoming, quite literally, an incorporeal ghost rider. What about going, Kill Bill-style, on a roaring rampage of revenge, allowing you to return to life if slain AND temporarily gain qualities of friggin' revenants in addition to the quarry etc.-tricks this nets anyways? OUCH! Oh, speaking of which - the capstone also nets the stranger immunity versus all movement-impeding conditions and options that force movement, including feats and maneuvers - fitting!

Conclusion:

Editing and formatting are top-notch, I noticed no glitches. Layout adheres to Legendary Games' beautiful 2-column full-color standard and the pdf comes with copious amounts of original full-color artwork, including some gorgeous 1-page pictures. The pdf comes fully bookmarked for your convenience.

Jason Nelson has a field day here - if you have read as many of his designs, you've come to expect his trademark coherent crunch that tackles complex concepts, but sometimes, he goes above and beyond it - this would be such an example, one where the design gleefully marries unobtrusive pop-culture references with superb crunch that actually manages to properly cover the concepts it is supposed to cover. This mythic path is glorious, with no bland numerical escalations and a vast multitude of utterly unique path abilities that fit the concept perfectly, while remaining distinct and above the purview of what can be achieved with mythic feats. Additionally, none of the abilities herein, while universally solid and powerful, felt broken to me and so far, I found no issues worth speaking of in this great addition to the mythic rules. Obviously, my final verdict will represent this excellence, with a final verdict of 5 stars + seal of approval.

An easy, uncomplicated read providing good input and worksheets for developing job descriptions. Does not cover in very much depth the physical demands and working conditions piece, which I was looking for. I work in an industry that employs a large variety of positions, indoors and outdoors, desk jobs and physically laborious jobs, and in various weather conditions, and we'd like to address physical demands for ADA purposes. This book seems more appropriate for companies whose jobs don't have such a variety of conditions. I did like, however, the simplicity in which it covered the other aspects of job descriptions.

An excellent book on systems and whole systems thinking.

This is the last book written by Dr. Deming before his death in 1993 at the age of 93. Dr. Deming is perhaps best known for the work he did in Japan at the end of World War II, and his famous 14 points. In this book Dr. Deming introduces his System of Profound Knowledge, which consists of: An understanding of Systems,A Theory of Knowledge, An understanding of Variation and Psychology Dr. Deming defines a system as: "A series of interdependent components that try to work together to achieve the aim of the system." The system must have an aim, without an aim there is not system. Dr. Deming explains variation as follows: All systems have some variation in them. The secret is to know what kind of variation is occuring and to respond accordingly. Common cause variation is the random variation tha occurs in any system. Special cause variation is a result of something outside the system acting on the system. An example would be that it normally takes you 25 minutes to drive to work, give or take a few minutes, but this morning, because of an accident the commute required 50 minutes. The normal drive time, with variation represents common cause variation, while the accident represents special cause variation. A theory of Knowledge is a way of doing experiments, or defining a mind set. According to Dr. Deming without theory no learning takes place. He give an example of a rooster that has a theory that he causes the sun to rise because he gets up early and crows. One morning he forgets to crow. The sun rises anyway. While the rooster's theory is blown out of the water he has learned that he is not responsible for causing the sun to rise and in the future he can sleep in. Dr. Deming's discussion on psychology has to do with the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. His basic theory is that people enter the world motivated to learn and do well and that the excessive use of extrinsic motivation kills the intrinsic motivation. In this book Dr. Deming also discusses in some detail his famous Red Beads Experiment which he uses to demonstrate the power of systems and how they victimize the people working in them.

Shorter Deming book

W. Edwards Deming is the man who tried to tell America how to make industry more effective. Few listened, so he went to postwar Japan and revolutionized their industry instead. When American industrial leaders saw Japan beating them, then they got interested. Almost anything by Deming is a must-read for his commonsense but statistically-based theories for productive, happy work. The New Economics is pretty short but introduces a lot of the points. For the in-depth view, read his Out of The Crisis.

About the Author
Julia Child was born in Pasadena, California. She graduated from Smith College and worked for the OSS during World War II in Ceylon and China, where she met Paul Child. After they were married they lived in Paris, where Ms. Child studied at the Cordon Bleu and taught cooking with Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, with whom she wrote the first volume of Mastering the Art of French Cooking (1961).
In 1963 Boston’s WGBH launched The French Chef television series, which made Julia Child a national celebrity, earning her the Peabody Award in 1965 and an Emmy in 1966. Her subsequent public television shows—Julia Child & Company (1978), Julia Child & More Company (1980), Cooking with Master Chefs (1993), In Julia’s Kitchen with Master Chefs (1995), Baking with Julia (1996), and her one-on-one collaboration with Jacques P�pin, Julia and Jacques Cooking at Home (1999)—were all accompanied by books of the same names. The Way to Cook, her magnum opus, was published in 1989, and in 2000 she gave us Julia’s Kitchen Wisdom, a distillation of her years of cooking experience. Her memoir, My Life in France, was published posthumously in 2006. She died in 2004.

THE French cookbook, after all these years

Like the famous Julie of "Julie and Julia", a lot of us aspiring amateur cooks tried to work through this book in the 70's. We made a lot of the recipes, including a memorable "Dacquoise" meringue and praline cake for grad school parties. (We eked out a seminar dinner budget to cover the speaker and two or three guests at a restaurant and turned it into dinner for 30 or so by cooking at a faculty member's house. This was our main cookbook for many of those dinners.)

The basics on vegetables are here--maybe a bit plain by today's standards, or sometimes overly complicated (who is going to fight with an artichoke or make a moussaka a la turque steamed in a lining of eggplant skin in a timbale mould) but most of the recipes are well worth the effort.

Book One has main dishes and a few desserts, soups, of course and vegetables. Book Two has more ambitious baking (the infamous Dacquoise) and even baguettes, which still don't come out quite right as American flour has a different ash content and American ovens don't produce steam like professional ovens. The pastry section is particularly good in both; you can learn to make a pate sable or a kind of sugar-cookie like crust that is dead useful for tarts. I've also used the Creme Bavaroise many a time; a lot of work, beating gelatin, cream and carefully unmolding what looks like a simple mousse in a decorative ring mould but is a very elegant dessert that serves quite a few, especially sliced, and plated with fresh berries and a drizzle of sauce. It adapts to many flavors (passion fruit, strawberry, chocolate, mocha) and is one of my favorite classics that you just don't see anymore. The Reine de Saba cake (chocolate almond, under-baked in the center and with a ganache glaze) is equally elegant and again, serves a number of people when sliced and plated elegantly.

This book has the only French Onion Soup recipe I really like. A lot of work (you have to peel and slice a hellacious pile of onions, oh the tears) and when I had this book the first time, there were NO food processors. Even so, with the food processor, it takes a lot of time to cook down and brown those onions and you need REALLY good broth but the result is by far the best onion soup there is. Just writing about it makes me want to go slice onions this very minute.

I can't imagine being without these books, and the packaging is nice, as the originals were two different sized volumes and sit kind of funny on the shelf.

I suppose I should mention that even if you aren't going to make most of these dishes (who can find veal these days?) the book is excellent reading on culinary arts.

Few books have had such a profound influence in their field

There are very few books that have had such a profound effect on their field. This book set is transformative - you will never view cooking food the same way again. I grew up watching Julia Child on my local PBS affiliate with no idea that she was anything other than a local cooking talent with a strange affect. After college, I found a copy of volume one in a used book store and can hear her voice in every recipe, stage of directions, and sage advice.
After many years, my family loves her beef stew - a regular dinner in our home. I despised French Onion soup growing up, but after following her directions it is my favorite.
One criticism of this book is the production. After many years of publishing technology improvements, the lack of photos to explain some butchery techniques makes this set a bit dated if you expect visual guides to some steps. Be patient, re-read, and have confidence. These are spectacular dishes made with simple techniques that even someone who grew up on canned soup and boxed dinners figured out.
If I was trapped on a remote island with only one cooking instructional resource, then this would be my choice. Everything else is a far distant second place.

Indispensible Starting Point for New Projects

The Fourth Edition is an advancement over the 2nd edition, the one I "grew up" with. Instead of jumping to cost preparation and option selection, then on to preliminary design, it starts out an excellent introduction, basic requirements for OSHA and EPA (including a good section on HAZOPs), a review of computer-aided design, then on to cost preparation and the rest. After option selection, the authors provide a good solid section on process optimization. This is a new area in the text and well worth reading. All in all, a current, concise design book, ideal for the student or the old hand.

good information said in too many paragraphs

For an undergraduate chemical engineering student, this book has many useful charts of utility costs, safety indices, etc. About those charts, I can only say good things, because it feels a lot better citing a textbook than citing web pages all the time. The other information in the book is useful, but not presented in a useful way. I cannot read this book word by word. It's too dry. What I would rather read is a bulleted list in each chapter with definitions and examples of things like HAZOP and fault tree analysis. Because really, when I finish my design class and I need to look up information on some design principal, I'm going to want an easy to read bulleted list, not a paragraph. I think this book could have about one third the pages that way, which would make it more readable and useful.

Good Starting Point for Economic Investigations

I never had much use for this text while in school. As with most subjects Senior year, we went too fast to appreciate it. With the years, however, I had cause to appreciate Peters & Timmerhaus. It is packed full of rules-of-thumb for preparations of cost estimates and comparing options. Although it is not the best place to end an economic investigation, it is the best place to start one.

Buy a real copy

My one star is not for the content; Gibran's writing is exquisite! But this copy is not worth a dime. The art and wood blocks have been eliminated, but besides that, the white space between the 77 vignettes has been deleted. Chapters and titles run on and on without breaks or any designation. Our book group has found it almost impossible to make sense of. I do have one old beautiful copy ... which I will treasure all the more. With it I could guide the other 9 readers through there own bewildering copies. This cheap edition insults both the author and the reader.

He employs history, Biblical text and his imagination to conjure 'interviews' with folks who may have been intimate with Jesus or affected by His presence from a distance.

His insight is exceptionally believable and he takes you on a journey that is both mystical and practical with the varying points of view. The positives are for believers primarily, and one will be filled with a sense of awe and intimacy toward Jesus. Nevertheless the voice of skeptics is heard, though in the minority, but it is given due attention.

The downside may be for those who are not so poetically inclined. Khalil's voice through those who admire Jesus is extremely metaphoric and it may be lost on those who need a more 'down to earth' description of feelings, emotions and attitudes. I felt at times that the discourses were perhaps too symbolic, though one understood the implication of the experience of encountering Jesus as beyond words.

In the end one is left understanding Jesus' impact more but hungering to know Him in a way that is more understandable than the sometimes amorphous descriptions by Gibran's characters. The interviews are fairly short and this makes it a manageable read for the most 'unbookish' of us.

All the same a great read and a classic anyone should have.

Tough read but Eye Opening

Its written years ago so the writing isn't like USA Today by any means. But it is worth it if you're interested in leadership, groups and specifically the impact of war on people. He has some fascinating observations and studies regarding why for instance bombing people into submission rarely, if ever works. Talks about it from the impact on individuals in relation to how close they are to the action. Interesting reading.
